Dom Venitia, AOC Beaumes de Venise, Rouge, 2018

Presentation

Presentation
Wine, religion, and the papacy left a strong mark on the Rhone Valley, especially in the Comtat Venaissin. Dom Venitia pays homage to those men of the cloth, these monks who contributed so much to creating and maintaining our vineyards in the heart of the Dentelles de Montmirail massif in the Middle Ages. Made from selected Grenache and Syrah grapes, Dom Venitia is a blend with a powerful, generous, and forthright character. Its rich fruitiness is the noble expression of Beaumes de Venise’s terroir.
Terroir
Our cru Beaumes de Venise is made from a blend of different terroirs : zaffer, clay, and limestone several million years old that give the wine its rich complex flavour.
In the vineyard
The Grenache grapes are carefully picked when perfectly ripe and then sorted by hand.
Vinification
Once they arrive at the cellar, they are lightly crushed to release some of their juice. The grapes are then put into vat and maintained at a temperature of 25°C. The wine stays on the skins for a total of 15 days. The Syrah grapes are put whole into vat and spend 10 days there at low temperature to lock in maximum fruitiness.
Ageing
The juice is blended and aged in concrete vats for 6 months, with regular racking.
Varietals
Grenache noir
Syrah
Carignan

"A tank sample of the 2018 Beaumes de Venise Dom Venitia showed ample freshness. A blend of Grenache, Syrah and Viognier, it features purple raspberries backed by notes of lavender and garrigue. It's full-bodied, creamy and dense, with black olive and licorice shadings on the slightly warm finish."
