The wine
The Beaumes de Venise is located in the heart of the Dentelles de Montmirail in the Rhone Valley. This majestic mountain chain features a unique terroir surrounding the village of Beaumes de Venise. A geological fault has left outcrops of three different soil types aged 100 to 230 million years: the Terres Blanches de Bel Air, the Terres Grises des Farisiens, and the Terres Ocres du Trias. The artisan winegrowers of Beaumes de Venise selected the finest plots from each of these terroirs to reflect the outstanding personality of this rare natural setting. We invite you to discover each of these 3 terroirs and to taste the marvellous gifts nature has bestowed on us.
Average age of the vines : 35 years.
Altitude of the Vineyard : 250 mètres.
Located north of the village of Lafare, the terroir des Farisiens consists primarily of oxfordian black marl dating from the Upper Jurassic period (140-150 million years B.C.). Centuries of erosion formed hills (mostly facing east and southeast) at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail, guaranteeing outstanding sun exposure as well as shelter from the mistral. Wines from this terroir have a lovely dark colour and ripe fruit aromas.
In the vineyard
Density : 4000 à 4500 vines/ha
Yield: 30 hl/ha
Fully ripe grapes are harvested and sorted out by hand, then undergo a gentle pressing. The temperature is kept at 25°C during fermentation.
The varieties are then blended and matured in concrete vats for 12 months.
Grenache noir : 75%
Syrah : 20%
Mourvèdre : 5%


Tasting notes
This wine has a brilliant cherry-red colour and a delicate, complex nose of leather, spices, and prune. It is full-bodied and structured on the palate with an aftertaste reminiscent of tapenade and liquorice. There is plenty of tannin, but this is quite silky. Altogether well-balanced.
Food pairing
This wine is a treat with roasts, vegetables, stews, and strong cheeses.


"From compact gray clay soils said to resemble those of Gigondas at 250–300 meters above sea level, the 2018 Beaumes de Venise is floral and spicy on the nose, then delivers purple raspberries and dark chocolate on the palate. Full-bodied and dense, it finishes velvety and warm."
