Notre dame des Vignes, AOC Côtes du Rhône Villages Visan, Rouge, 2018

"A vintage of a typical red wine, spicy, generous and greedy. The classic southern Rhône grape varieties give an expression as I like them: without surprise, ripe and full-bodied. Drink them young or wait 2 years to accentuate their spicy character. " - Jérémie Léone, Sommelier

Presentation

Presentation
History has it that a statue of the Madonna and Child was discovered in a furrow by a winegrower in the 13th century. After fervently bringing it into the parish church, she disappeared overnight. It was found in the same furrow the next day. Three times and despite the vigilance of the parish priest, this phenomenon was repeated.
Popular faith requires, it was concluded that it was the divine will to build a chapel to house it at the place of its discovery.
Spared two deadly epidemics of plague raging around in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, Visanais then vowed a particular worship to Notre Dame who protected them by 2 times.
Symbol of the viticulture of the village, the Cuvée Notre-Dame-des-Vignes is the very expression of the generosity and the typicality of Visan wines.
Location
Traces of life from the Gallo-Roman period were discovered in Visan, attesting to the occupation of the site in Antiquity. The vine was already established there under Probus, in the third century. As early as 1250, Visan had its communal press. Once owned by the Templars, Visan became papal land in 1344 and remains until today in the heart of the Enclosure of the Popes.
A piece of Vaucluse, isolated in the middle of the Drôme Provençale, called the Enclave des Papes, a legacy of Papal domination from the 14th century. But it was only a stage in the history of this vineyard which has been shaped and progressed for more than 1800 years.
Visan acquired its letters of nobility in 1966 by passing Côtes du Rhône Village.
