Roque Colombe, AOC Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Rouge, 2018

The wine
The Popes in Avignon decided to spend their summers in this château overlooking the small village of Châteauneuf du Pape in the 14th century. It was they who launched the winegrowing vocation of this tremendous terroir where vestiges of medieval times are still to be found. Reflecting the best of a fine terroir with river stones polished over the centuries, the cuvée Roque Colombe expresses all the elegance of old Grenache vines on terraces in the northern part of the appellation.
Rocky and sandy soil.
The grapes are entirely handpicked at peak ripeness. Low yields make for beautiful concentration.
After traditional winemaking, the tannin becomes round and acquires class and distinction by ageing in oak barrels for 12-18 months.
Grenache noir

Tasting notes
A very refined bouquet with hints of prune, fig and caramel. Powerful and well-structured on the palate with a great deal of roundness as well as soft, elegant tannin. Roasted flavours on the aftertaste.
Food pairing
This wine is wonderful with rabbit (in a sauce with shallot and thyme), duck breast with chanterelle mushrooms and beef casserole.
